This was such a beautiful read - I love how you got to experience a beautiful unfolding in Hampi and also how you relayed it here. Reading your chapters make my heart pang for India. I've been once but I stayed in the same place for 3 weeks 😅 Which I loved and was deliberate, but man am I yearning to return and visit all of the places you're mentioning!

Thank you so much, Ella! Staying somewhere longer is the best. I basically just stayed in Goa for a month and did a side trip to Hampi 😉

Claire I like how you got to explore Hampi at your own pace. I love to rent scooters whenever I go to a new town or something when traveling. I love scooters so so much. India reminds me a lot of the Philippines with the rice fields and palm trees.

Great that you waited around to let yourself figure it out, Claire. Pretty amazing stuff! The ruins are gorgeous.

Thanks, Jeanine! It was only a couple of days there but certainly dramatic! And the ruins were incredible - I'll try and share more photos in Notes over the coming days.

But man! The crumbling building next to you! That is scary stuff. In foreign countries that don't have the best of procedures --or announcements): -- kinda crazy at times. The Mex police did that in Tulum (you'r probably familiar w/ it). It grew so so fast, and there was land that supposedly had been land grants that locals "sold" which was illegal. In time 4 cute hotels and 6 or so restaurants moved in to the empty space. One morning, during high season of course, the bulldozers came, kinda same scenario, and tourists were displaced. Then for years - the land was just enclosed w/ yellow 'crime' tape and a lot of rubble. Prime gorgeous BEACH in front of it. So weird. I love how you found your new place!!! Sometimes, slowing down and listening, and maybe morning pp, etc--is the trick! Happy holidays and Safe Travels!

That's wild that this happened in Tulum! Very similar story. Yes, this time last year we were there in Mexico!

The way my body was so sure Palolem was the place to go... I was able to follow my intuition during my travels and it was as though I could glimpse the future sometimes. Weird but very cool!

Morning pages definitely help with our personal excavation too! I journalled daily throughout my travels. I'm obsessed with notebooks!

That was years ago re Tulum. I wrote about it. Tulum, poor Tulum. Some day I'll say more. I actually went to fiction (narco-thrillers) so I could tell it in allegorical form - it is really sad now. It has really had problems, of so many types. Anyway - carry on!!

I read concerning things about how Tulum is run before I went there, and I'm sure it only scratched the surface of what's going on. In any case, we still had a great time!

It’s so beautiful, and if you’re there for a week, the crusty undergirth usually doesn’t show. Saludos and Feliz Año!!
