8 of the world's best yoga and wellness centres
Beautiful healing havens to rejuvenate your body and mind
Wellness travel is set to generate over $1 trillion annually, as burnt-out professionals seek nourishing experiences for the body and spirit.
On my solo travels around the world, I’ve discovered extraordinary yoga sanctuaries, from beachside bliss to jungle retreats and urban escapes. These are transformative spaces for weary wanderers.
Let me guide you through eight of my favourite yoga centres around the world, where you can stretch your tired muscles, calm your racing thoughts and meet like-minded people.
Beachfront bliss: Yoga sanctuaries by the sea
The Sanctuary, Koh Phangan, Thailand
The Sanctuary Thailand tops my list of world-class yoga places for good reason. This beachside haven on Koh Phangan island is truly magical—a secluded wellness paradise accessible only by boat.
With daily yoga and meditation sessions, this sociable retreat offers something for everyone. The weekly schedule brims with workshops and healing sessions.
If you want to detox, they run outstanding group detox and fasting programmes, otherwise you can feast on their excellent international vegetarian menu. There are also special events and parties where you can dance the night away.
You can book a luxury bungalow or budget accommodation options, including affordable dorm rooms.

The Power of Now Oasis, Sanur, Bali, Indonesia
The Power of Now Oasis in Bali’s coastal town of Sanur is exactly what its name promises—a tranquil sanctuary where you can immerse yourself in the present moment.
I adored this beachside gem, which welcomes you with its organic juice bar, inspiring library and relaxed atmosphere. Gentle sea breezes flow through the open-air pavilion while you practice.
Their daily vinyasa flow and hatha yoga classes cater to all levels. Teacher training and wellness retreats are also on offer here.
Dropping in for a single class is easy, making it perfect for travellers passing through Bali who need a quick reset.

Lula Hotel, Tulum, Mexico
The most breathtaking yoga space I've ever experienced is the studio at Tulum’s Lula Hotel, which overlooks the Caribbean Sea.
Here, the soundtrack to your practice is the rhythm of waves. Morning classes welcome all levels, with teachers who genuinely support your journey.
The studio also hosts workshops including sound healing and dance sessions that add variety to your wellness routine during your stay in Mexico.

Tropical retreats: Yoga in paradise settings
The Yoga Barn, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
At the heart of Ubud's thriving yoga community, The Yoga Barn is a institution set in lush green grounds.
What sets it apart is its impressive range of daily classes and workshops. During my stays in Ubud, I enjoyed everything from gentle restorative sessions to yin yoga and challenging vinyasa flows.
The community extends beyond yoga with ecstatic dance events, kirtan singing, movie nights, and meditation sessions. Their regular cleansing and Ayurvedic retreats attract yogis from across the globe, as does its annual BaliSpirit Festival.

Bhakti Kutir, Palolem, Goa, India
Hidden among jungle groves behind Palolem in Goa, Bhakti Kutir feels like a secret yoga haven. The serene atmosphere creates the perfect environment for both experienced practitioners and curious beginners.
The open-air yoga classes immerse you in nature, with the sounds of birds and rustling leaves enhancing your practice.
I loved the delicious organic food, relaxed staff and surprisingly strong WiFi connection - perfect for digital nomads wanting to balance work and wellness.
I met Nadia at Bhakti Kutir, who stayed there for several weeks - read her review here.
Urban sanctuaries: City wellness escapes
The Loft Yoga Lounge, Auckland, New Zealand
After a long-haul flight to New Zealand, The Loft Yoga Lounge in Auckland is the perfect antidote to travel fatigue. When I discovered this place that pairs yoga with delicious food, I knew I'd found something special.
Several evenings a week they host ‘yoga and dinner’ sessions. After your class, the staff serve up a vegetarian feast, which you dine on at shared tables so you can get to know your fellow yogis. The generous portions of curries, vegetable dishes and spiced tea ensure you leave with both spirit and stomach satisfied. I came back here time and time again.
Bikram Yoga Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia
My intense introduction to hot yoga took place at this colourful, modern studio in Sydney, Australia.
It’s a contemporary and calm place with spotlessly clean changing rooms. The teachers are passionate, friendly and they even attend each other’s classes.
I appreciated the warm welcome at reception, as they remember your name. If you’re new to hot yoga, they’ll make sure you understand the routine and feel comfortable.
Valletierra, Buenos Aires, Argentina
In Buenos Aires' trendy Palermo Soho neighbourhood, Valletierra is a welcoming space for travellers needing respite from urban exploration. Their weekly schedule of yoga and mediation sessions includes Kundalini and Iyengar classes.
I particularly loved Valletierra’s 5Rhythms dance class set to music, which I found an uplifting and liberating experience for the body and mind.
Afterwards, why not treat yourself to a massage at their on-site spa for complete rejuvenation.
